NAME: Darrell R. drconcerts@mindspring.com

ABOUT THE FAN:

I'm 31 years old, married, with two little girls ages 6 & 2. I live in Lawrenceville, GA, a northern suburb of Atlanta. I'm also what you would call a 'starving artist' type, a singer/songwriter who travels the southeastern US. Visit our web page at http://www.darrellritchie.com. I enjoy virtually every kind of movie, but I must admit a more obvious leaning towards the horror/sci-fi genre.

JAWS COLLECTION:

Let's see, all four movies on VHS, novelizations of 1, 2, & 4, JAWS 2 Log, On Martha's Vineyard...The Making Of The Movie JAWS paperback, Reader's Digest Condensed Book version of JAWS (which is actually a better read!), Jaws soundtrack on vinyl and CD, JAWS 2 soundtrack on CD, JAWS reprint poster, original JAWS 2 "One Good Bite Deserves Another!" 1980 re-release poster, JAWS model kit, Dickie Goodman's "Mr. JAWS" 45" single, the JAWS game, JAWS iron-on T-shirt from 3rd grade (it doesn't fit anymore!), the Making Of Jaws documentary (courtesy Sean G.), the PREMIERE magazine 20th anniversary JAWS article, the JAWS retrospective in FANGORIA #150, as well as various shark models and replicas (in a vain attempt to find something resembling our beloved Bruce).

COMMENTS:

I'm one of the few here who actually got to see JAWS in all it's cinematic glory upon it's orginal release in 1975. I had always had a leaning in this direction as far as entertainment, but JAWS really pushed the boat out in the water. Not only did it get me hooked on horror films, but JAWS' transcending various genres also gave me appreciation for character plays, dramas, comedies, actions pictures,...the list goes on.

Obviously my kids are not really old enough to see these films, at least not the uncut versions. But I'm interested to see if, as they get older, this film will carry over into yet another generation.

Kudos to Jake Gove for saving my marriage! My wife Michelle is so thrilled that I finally have a group of people to discuss this movie with! Gotta get my fix somewhere......

NAME: GARAND

ABOUT THE FAN:

My Forum name is Garand and I am 31 years old.  I live in central Texas and I am a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, where I received degrees in History and Anthropology.  I am currently writing a book about U.S. tanks in WWII and Korea, and I hope to eventually work for the U.S. Govt. in Europe.

JAWS COLLECTION:

I never really had a JAWS collection, like most kids I just had a bunch of stuff.  I did have the .45 of "MR. JAWS, the MAD magazine spoof, and just about everything else that was JAWS or shark related.  Much of it was lost or thrown away after I started collecting Star Wars paraphernalia in '77.  My current "collection" of JAWS or JAWS-related items includes the letterbox version of JAWS, a copy of the paperback from 1975, a very scratchy LP of the JAWS sountrack, a file of magazine articles relating to JAWS, a copy of "Sportfishing for Sharks" by Frank Mundus, a replica great white from Safari, Ltd., a large megalodon tooth, an M1 rifle, and a harpoon.

COMMENTS:

I saw JAWS twice on the night it opened in my hometown in 1975, when I was 9 years old.  It was the first movie I ever saw without my parents, and like most people I was swept away in the shark craze of '75.  My father has fished on the gulf coast since the 1940's, so I got to play on boats, catch sharks, and pretend I was Quint.  Someone gave me a children's book about sharks that featured a story about Capt. Frank Mundus and I decided that I would be a shark fisherman when I grew up. Like my pre-JAWS ambition to become a pirate, it never happened.

Finding Jake's site has rekindled my interest in JAWS, and I would like to see the movie re-issued for the 25th anniversary, in a "cleaned up" version with the best "lost scenes" replaced.  I also hope that there will be no more pathetic sequels to further tarnish the JAWS name.

NAME: andrea queenann100@hotmail.com

ABOUT THE FAN:

I am 23 years old and live in Sutherland, Nebraska. I am originally from a small town in North Dakota. I just recently got married and am thoroughly enjoying married life. My husband, Tim, and I have one dog.....a mini schnauzer named Cosmo. He is my baby and we love him to death. Other hobbies I enjoy are doll collecting, reading, writing, and crafts. My love of JAWS started when I was 3 years old and my parents let me watch it on TV. Ever since then I have been obsessed with it! It scared me to death and I had nightmares about it until I was 8 years old, but eventually fear turned to fascination. I haven't been able to get enough of it ever since.

JAWS COLLECTION:

My JAWS collection is rather pathetic compared to some of the other fan's collections (I'm so ashamed!). I have the letterboxed collectors edition of JAWS, JAWS 2 taped off of cable, the JAWS Documentary (thanks to Sean G.), and a beanie baby great white shark which proudly sits next to my VCR. My heart's desire is to own the JAWS cookie jar that plays the theme song every time you open the lid! I'd be in the cookie jar every 10 seconds.....probably not a good thing!!!

Update (Aug. 2000): I DID get the Jaws cookie jar I so badly wanted from RICH [long time forum member who SHOULD be in the HOF but was too lazy to send in the bio! :) ]. After RICH gave me the Jaws cookie jar, I filled it with dog biscuits. I have since trained my dog to come running whenever he hears the "da-dum" come out of the lid! lol! Sort of a Pavlovian thing of our time, I guess.

RICH also sent me a birthday gift which will forever be my most cherished and prized Jaws collectible: the Jaws poster signed by members of the cast and extras. He obtained these signatures in person on a trip to Martha's Vineyard and had it personalized to me. It contains the signatures of Craig Kingsbury (Ben Gardner), Lee Fierro (Mrs. Kintner), and Jeffrey Voorhees (Alex Kintner), amongst others. It will be matted and framed, where I will keep it protected and leave it as my legacy when I die! (Or I will sell it for mega bucks if RICH ever needs a kidney or something!)

COMMENTS:

I stumbled upon Jake's site pretty much by accident, but I'm glad that I did. The only other person to share my JAWS fascination is my sister, and since we live far apart, I'm usually on my own. It's nice to be able to come here and talk to fellow fans, and I've made a lot of new friends here. My thanks to Jake for providing me with countless hours of entertainment and a place to go where people don't think I'm crazy for loving JAWS!!

NAME: ROGELIO DURON duron@acnet.net

ABOUT THE FAN:

My name is Rogelio Duron, I live in Monterrey N.L Mexico, it's one of Mexico's most important cities. I'm 20 at the time, I was born on the 29th of April 1978, Natural born Taurus. My hobbies are watching movies and writing stories. I go to a theater class and I'd like to be a movie director someday. I'm studying Commerce and International Relations. My first experience with "JAWS" was back when I was a little kid and my Dad used to take me to these big monster movies like King Kong and Godzilla. It's amazing how all the kids had Batman or Superman for heroes and I had Bruce the shark from JAWS as mine.

JAWS COLLECTION:

I have a 6th print copy of 1975 JAWS by Peter Benchley and a 1st ed. Mexican copy of it. I have the pan and scan version of JAWS, a sticker from JTR that has a little story of its own, a Universal Studios JAWS T-shirt, and a big inflatable white shark. I'm about to get a NINTENDO just to purchase the old JAWS game it's gonna be my Christmas present.

COMMENTS:

I love the forum and I appreciate all you guys who as me love the JAWS movies and talk about just everything. As long as we stand together the JAWS legend will survive, thank you all.

COMMENTS:

My mother went to see Jaws in July of 1975, and I was born several hours later. I became close friends with a survivior of the Indianapolis who recently passed away, I made the pilgrimage to Martha's Vineyard for the 25th Anniversary of the film, and I have a July '75 Jaws tattoo on my right arm. I guess you could say I'm a fan.

A special thank you to Andrea, Darrell, Brett, Rudy, Lava, Sharknut, brodiebruce, and about a dozen other cool as hell people for being such great company. Extra special thanks to RICH, Clarke, Katrina, Lee Fiero, Craig Kingsbury, Jeff Voorhees and my beloved Jennie for the Martha's Vineyard experience. And super duper double dipped super supreme thanks to Jake for the awesome homepage/forum which keeps getting better all the time- it's turned out to be the best part of this strange obsession.

God bless that big rubber shark!

NAME: Brett JawsVS@aol.com

ABOUT THE FAN:

At the moment (January, 2000) I am 18 years old and a freshman in college with Biology as my major. I live in Traverse City, a relatively small town in Northern Michigan. If you face the palm of your right hand towards you, I live at the tip of your pinky, on Lake Michigan. I currently have been working as a busser in a restaurant for the last three years. Its not as bad as you think! My hobbies include off-roading, mountain biking, football, skiing, R/C trucks, catching up on the latest novel out there, hunting, fishing, gotta love the video games, building my star wars collection, and MOVIES! I have always loved movies, and I am considering taking film as a minor in college. I have a Top 25 Movie List that I constantly update. Hey, its something fun to do! Can you guess what #1 is?

JAWS COLLECTION:

Well, since I was born almost 6 years after Jaws came out (and that means Jaws had been out TEN years before I was finally old enough to see it), I missed out on a lot of the "prime" Jaws items, but I still like to think my that collection isn't TOO shabby. I own the Letterboxed THX version of the original film, the TV version of Jaws 2 where the helicopter pilot gets devoured, Jaws 3D on VHS, and Jaws the Revenge on DVD. I have a framed Jaws movie poster hanging in my room, a 7-11 Jaws cup from 1975, a 26 inch rubber great white (along with many others), full sets of both the Jaws 2 and Jaws 3D cards, "The Jaws Log" by Carl Gottlieb, "The Making of the Movie Jaws" by Edith Blake, the Jaws soundtrack on CD, and the Jaws novel by Peter Benchley, along with a plethera of shark books (I also have an extensive amount of Jaws article clippings thanks to Scott S., another forum regular). I have a few nice Megalodon teeth, a Matchbox Star Car Amity boat, a Jaws cookie jar that plays the Jaws theme when you open its mouth, and a Thomas English Muffins promo shirt of when "Jaws the Ride" in Universal Studios, Florida first opened. I also have the Jaws Documentary (also thanks to Scott S.) and a Jaws keychain and pen and paper set from Universal Studios. In the end, I would have to say that my favorite Jaws item is my personalized liscense plate that says "JAWS 99", with the 99 signifying the year I graduated from high school. Whew....I am pretty sure that is it!

COMMENTS:

Even though I didn't get to see Jaws in the theaters, I still saw it at an age younger than most, and I grew up with it. Jaws has imprinted many positive interests in me, and it has given me both a love for the natural world and motion pictures. When you grow up with something from such a young age, you identify yourself with it, similar to an animal thinking the first thing it comes into contact with is it's mother. You latch onto it, and it becomes a part of you. In this respect, Jaws has many sentimental values for me. Quint may not be the best role model for a kid, but I still turned out ok :) This Jaws site is fantastic, and it is great to finally find some people with the same love for this movie as me. Jaws fans are hard to find! The Jaws Forum has really come a long way since the beginning. I never thought I would end up getting to know people through it. I still remember when questions like "How many Jaws sequels are there?" were posted!

NAME: Scott S. crabsmith@msn.com

ABOUT THE FAN:

I am 34 years old and live in Kansas City, MO. I'm currently attending school full-time at Ottawa University, and hope to graduate by the end of this year. I have been a Jaws fan since the tender age of 9, when I happened to see the newly published paperback at a store. I have been hooked ever since. My family was stationed in Panama at the time, so we had to wait several months before it finally arrived down there. I made up for lost time by seeing it 5 times in one week (all my parents would allow!)

JAWS COLLECTION:

Not much, I'm sorry to say. I have the letterboxed video of Jaws, the 2+ hour documentary, and was lucky enough to find a widescreen laserdisc of Jaws 2, which also found its way into my collection. I have the Jaws and Jaws 2 novels, as well as several magazines with Jaws related articles.

COMMENTS:

I was very new to the internet when I found this site. I remember the first night I logged on to it I spent nearly four hours reading all the posts, amazed that there were so many other hard core Jaws fans like myself. I really thought I was one of the few people left who was still obsessed with this movie. It was great to see that there were so many others who loved it just as much. Two years have since past and barely a day goes by without my checking in to see what's new here.

NAME: Capt. Frank Mundus, aka "The Real Quint"

Frank Mundus, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1925, is the most famous shark fisherman of all time. Since taking his boat CRICKET II on it's maiden voyage in 1947, Capt. Mundus has caught some of the largest great white sharks on record. He pioneered the sport of sharkfishing and was the innovator of many of the fishing techniques used today. Although Peter Benchley has never publicly acknowledged him, it is generally known that he was the inspiration for the character "Quint". Much of the action in JAWS is based on Capt. Mundus' real-life experiences.

In 1961 Capt. Mundus caught a 3,000lb great white off the bathing beach of Amagansett (Amity?), NY. The following year he caught a larger great white off Block Island. His greatest claim to fame came in 1964 when, after a 5 hour struggle, he captured a 17 1/2', 4,500lb great white 10 miles off Montauk, Long Island. The shark required 5 harpoons, each attached to a beer barrel by a 400' rope, before it could be towed to shore. Benchley refers to this incident during his interview on the 20th anniversary edition of JAWS, but doesn't mention Capt. Mundus by name. In 1986 Capt. Mundus and Capt. Donnie Braddick caught the largest fish ever taken on rod and reel, a 17', 3,427lb great white. Capt. Braddick was the angler, while Capt. Mundus baited the shark, drove the boat, and supervised the capture of the shark.

Capt. Mundus has appeared on the David Letterman show and has been the subject of 2 books, "Capt. Frank Mundus, Shark Man" and "In the Slick of the Cricket", as well as writing his own book "Sportfishing for Sharks". He currently lives in Hawaii and is working on his autobiography.

Capt. Mundus, for his accomplishments, has been named an Honorary Hall of Fame Member.

NAME: Chuck Gramling johnjaws@mediaone.net

ABOUT THE FAN:

I am a 34 year old filmmaker who was first entranced by the world of Hollywood after seeing Jaws in its theatrical release in 1975. I work as a writer/producer/director doing corporate video work and making low budget films for regional television and video release. One of the projects I produced was the spoof of Jaws with forum members Mike Roddy and Erik Hollander, ALL THAT JAWS. I also have 2 "sons", my cats Socrates and Tiger whom I love very much. This is their place, I just live here as their butler to feed and pet them when needed, otherwise, they allow me to have my own time. :-)

JAWS COLLECTION:

A LOT! An ORIGINAL sharks tail that hung on the ext. of Quint's house, seen in the film when they are boarding. Spielberg's autograph on a Jaws still of him. Shaw, Scheider and Dreyfuss's autographs on the still of the 3 of them in the shark jaws. An ORIGINAL official Universal Jaws sharks tooth necklace still in it's original package from 1975. ADDAR Jaws shark model. A photocopy of Joe Alves personal storyboard book. A color copy of Joe Alves ORIGINAL design of Bruce and the platform. American Cinematographer, People, Time, Mad, Film Review mags ALL with Jaws on the cover and featured stories. Japanese theatrical release program. Jaws poster. 8x10 ORIGINAL of the Orca from Edith Blake's original camera negative. An autographed copy of the hardcover first printing of the Making of by Blake. The Jaws Log. The hardcover and 2 versions of the paperback, one of which is autographed by Benchley. Lee Fiero, Chris Rebello, Craig Kingsbury, Lorraine Gary, Jeff Kramer and many of the other supporting casts pics and autographs. Jaws model tour bus. Joe Alves, Ted Grossman and John Williams autographs on Jaws stills. Presskit clip art. Signature collection laserdisc. Jaws DVD. Jaws soundtracks (old and new). 50 personally cut frames from an actual 35mm print of Jaws. Over 100 stills. And thats not all of it either.

COMMENTS:

I've only been a regular on the forum for about a year and have met some great people. It is like a family: A Jaws family that I am proud to be a part of. It was Jaws that made me a filmmaker and it is Jaws I look to for inspiration before I embark upon a new project, because that is where it started for me.

NAME: Sharknut cbowns@concentric.net

ABOUT THE FAN:

Okay, I admit it, my real name is not Sharknut,(no-really?) it's Cari, and I know many of you were suprised, (and maybe are suprised now) to find out I am a woman LOL! Sharknut just fits me, I love sharks, and have lots of shark stuff!!!

Like Brett, I live in Michigan, I was just married on May 13th, and am totally loving married life. My husband, Matt and I have a wonderful, 7 year old son named Matt Jr, who we absolutley adore!! Besides sharks, my hobbies include making everything from Indian dreamcatchers, to the bone jewlery. I also work third shift, as a polysomnoghraphic technologist, (or better know as a sleep tech lol!!) doing sleep studies on people.

The first time I saw Jaws, I was six, and I was absolutley terrified, however, since I was supposed to be in bed, I couldn't make a sound, or I'd be caught! But the movie impacted me so, that it sparked a 20 year(and still going!) love of sharks. And I was so scared to go in ANY water, I made my mom get me a book on the anatomy and behaivorism of sharks (yes at 6, I did read the WHOLE thing LOL!) and ever since I've been hooked! Jaws has always been (and always will be) my favorite movie, and sharks will always be my favorite hobby :-)

I also have my own shark web site, called Sharknut's Shark Site, and I have sub site on there, that is a Jaws-site (if you want to know it's @ http://www.geocities.com/sharknut )

JAWS COLLECTION:

Once upon a time, I had a fairly decent collection, but sad to say, that was many years, and many moves ago :-( At one time, I had the Ideal (plastic)Jaws game, the necklace, a ring, lots of trading cards (both Jaws 1&2), a poster, Carl Gottlieb's The Jaws Log, the Jaws 2 official sticker book, the first 3 (recorded) on video, which wore out years ago LOL! (Do I have to admit this...) JTR in paperback, Mad magazine, and Cracked (featuring Jaws) and last but not least, Jaws 3-D on the ORIGINAL disc player (c'mon, you know, when Beta's ruled the land LOL!) Now, however, what I have is a recorded copy of ABC's presentation, the laser disc documentary (recorded), Jaws 3-D, a broken necklace (it's missing the bottom jaw) JTR in paperback, and a few cheesy rip-offs recorded! Sad, sad, sad, I know, but I am holding out till this July to buy the VHS 25th anniversary release.

COMMENTS:

First off, I want to thank Jake for creating this forum, it is the ONLY forum I regularly haunt, and the only chatroom I EVER go into (I'm not big on boards, or chatrooms) but I feel so at home here, and the other forum goers are great!!!!! It's soooo nice to know I'm not the only nut out here who loves Jaws, but until I stumbled onto this site, I thought I was alone. So here I am, and here I'll stay :-) The best part, is being able to talk about a 25 year old movie, without people going "Um....okay" and looking at me like I'm crazy LOL!!!

My wife, Tami, and I live with Jordan, our Golden Retriever. For more info about the JAWS site, visit About JAWSmovie.com.

JAWS COLLECTION:

NAME: Beck/Rudy Harding rudyh2000@yahoo.com

ABOUT THE FAN:

Right now I am a student at KSU Salina, majored in Computer Information systems. I am 19 years old. I was born in WaKeeney, Kansas, which is one of the smallest towns I know. Hobbies include: Making web pages. I've made about 10 web pages, with only 2 being still on the web. I do a little bit of reading, mainly Foxtrot. Quincy rules!!! Can't forget about video games. Been playing those since 1987. I enjoy listening to music. My favorite artists are: Fatboy Slim, Moby, Beck, The Time, and Aerosmith. And of course, I like Great White Sharks. I owe all of that to Jaws.

JAWS COLLECTION:

Uh oh. Definetly not as big as the others. I got Jaws 1 and 3 on video tape. I got that Shark Beanie Baby. And I have Jaws the Novel.

COMMENTS:

I first went to the Jaws Forum back in 1997, so I guess the only thing I can really say is that I was one of the first people to post! Woo hoo!! Anyway, I first saw Jaws when I was 8 years old, so as you probably would guess, that movie scared the hell outta me. But I thought it was awesome and it lead me to study more about Great Whites. (I later saw Jaws: The Revenge, and that scared me too, in a different way.) Thanks to Jake for creating an awesome web site and a great forum. Its been great hanging out with all the cool people in the forum who have been putting up with me :-)

ABOUT THE FAN:

My name is Julie Ann Broxterman. I am 21 years old and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio, although I am originally from Ft. Worth Texas. I am currently working at a HUGE music store. I hope to get my vet tech license soon though. I volunteer at the aquarium here and I get to see sharks on a weekly basis. And also feed baby penguins, which is the fun part of the job. I enjoy to read books and spend time with my boyfriend and my two Toy Rat Terriers. (Chico and Paisley, Chico is pictured.) I hope to work at a major zoo and work with the zoo vets. I am currently working on this dream as we speak. In my spare time I love to paint and help my friend out at his pet store taking care of the fish and the reptiles. I also like to go to the movies and go fishing.

JAWS COLLECTION:

I don't have a huge collection but I am working on it. My collection consists of a Jaws article from the Monster Times 1976 (Chuck Gramling sent it to me as a present.) Pictures from the film (also from Chuck), and an autographed picture of Jaws signed by Steven Spielberg, original Jaws Log, autograph pic of Frank Mundus (the "real" Quint), Jaws 1-4 on vhs, a Jaws T-shirt from Universal, a 1975 ticket stub from Jaws, big Jaws clock and small clock, cookie jar that plays Jaws, Jaws on LD, and Jaws 1, 2 (got it early) and 4 on DVD. Whewww!!! And that's about it.

COMMENTS:

I would like to thank Jake for an awesome site ... you just don't know how many hours of entertainment you have provided me. And I would also like to say a little hello to all of the nice people I have met on this website, (you all know who you are). Everyone has been very nice and not to mention advice I have been given from Chuck . You probably don't remember what it was but believe me it has stuck. I started posting here like a year and a half ago, and although the same topics have been discussed a million trillion times, I never tire of reading them all. I will come back again and again because I love this website and of course I love the movie Jaws.
