I posted an update on the http://www.sharkisstillworking.com site.
Everyone is wondering what the heck is going on with the documentary, and why it is taking so long.
What we've been doing for the past few months is submitting to film festivals and trying to set up appearances at fan conventions.
The doc had been invited to many festivals in the past before it was actually completed, so there wasn't much we could do. Big components of festivals are submission deadlines, premiere exclusivity and permissions to show the footage the doc contains. There are rules about not making money from screenings, there is red tape. Permission took a long time and various deadlines were missed. We tried to get festivals to make exceptions for us, but it was too late.
Two festivals we were gunning for this fall were the Toronto Film Festival and The Hamptons Film Festival. Neither worked out. Our next target is the early 2009 festivals. We would like to premiere at Sundance (Jan. 2009) so we are waiting to find out if we get in. We are also targeting Slamdance (Jan. 2009) if Sundance doesn't work out. We have been invited multiple times to South by Southwest (March 2009), so we will try for that again as well.
While the festival strategy has been happening, we have been trying to set up footage screenings and/or panels at a few fan conventions. The best case scenario would have been the San Diego Comicon, but deadlines and permissions prevented that. Next up was the Atlanta Dragoncon, but they did not have a desirable time slot for us. Our next target is the Chiller Convention in Oct in New Jersey. We hope to find out this week if we can make an appearance at the convention, and if we do, we would love to see many fans join us.
We are also working on getting some representation for the doc to help facilitate the festivals and a distribution deal. It's all a long story but we have had a lot of promising leads fall apart.
Anyway, stay tuned for more info and thanks for your continued patience.
